Improve Vocational Training, Fight Against Poverty

Fighting Poverty through Empowering Young People.

Step one is to provide the basics to the youth in underprivileged communities: health care, safety, and education. However, in order to truly alleviate generational poverty and reliance on donations, these young people need to develop practical skills both in vocational training and farming which will give them hope for a brighter future beyond their current circumstances.

Invest in Farming & Vocational Empowerment

Your donation towards vocational training aims to empower the youth to develop useful skills, such as carpentry, brick laying, sewing, and crafting, to participate in the life of their local community and improve their future employability.

How will your support help?

DEVELOP PRACTICAL SKILLS TO MEET THE LOCAL REQUIREMENTS.

Every community has different demands and faces different challenges around the world. During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, one out of every ten young girls in northern Uganda became pregnant. The high proportion of poverty contributes to a rise in early child pregnancy, high level of teenage alcohol consumption. Our staff identifies youth who are interested in a particular skill and refers them to a vocational training centre where they acquire skills which would assist them in overcoming communal difficulties and permanently ending poverty. Such skills include:

  • BRICK LAYING
  • ART & CRAFT
  • TAYLORING
  • METAL WORKS

WHY FOCUS ON VOCATION?

Empowerment and poverty eradication are inextricably linked. An increase in one’s ability to overcome poverty is linked to self-esteem, personal responsibility, and future aspirations.

Many youth living in disadvantaged communities have never seen an example of a person or family overcoming poverty. They are often unable to look beyond their circumstances. That is why it is critical to provide them with the tools they need to make long-term changes in their lives and the confidence they need to lift their families out of poverty. Our programmes promote social responsibility through workshops on leadership, life skills, and employment training, empowering youngsters to make a difference for the future generation.

HOW DO WE MEASURE CHANGES?
When we measure empowerment, we look at the following:

Vocational training completion rates: We track progress by looking at the percentage of sponsored young people who complete their vocational training.

Entrepreneur start ups: We track the percentage of sponsored youth who have been successful in establishing their own business or have managed to get jobs in different sectors because of their skill development.

How will you make a difference?

There are many ways to get involved and make a difference, whether it’s a one-time donation, a monthly sponsorship, or supporting educational hubs, health and vocation programmes and the teams that serve them. TOUCEO is there to impact young people’s lives, but we cannot do it without your support.
