“Education is the door to freedom, democracy and development”

Nelson Mandela

Access to quality education is a key factor in empowering children to become active participants in the transformation of their societies. It has been identified as one of the U.N’s 17 Global Goals to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. Yet there are still 57 million children in the world who are not enrolled in education and more than half of these live in sub-Saharan Africa.

In order to try and address this problem, TOUCEO together with the local community of Zeu have Identified the need of helping build a secondary school in Awobia, Adusi parish.

The need for a secondary school in particular has risen as a result of the local community have identified the reason for why most of their children wouldn’t continue with secondary education after completing primary school. This is because the closest secondary school within the village is about four kilometers away. Considering the fact that they can barely afford to pay for the school fees let a lone walking eight miles to school daily, meant that most of them would give up their education.

TOUCEO, together with the local church and the partnership of All Saints Church Liverpool are here to bridge the gap by asking for help from both local and international organisations and individuals in raising funds to build the first secondary school in this village.

We believe there are many people like us who wish to contribute something of our wealth to benefit others – so we provide a safe and reliable conduit for people who want to help children aspire to a brighter future, through access to a good education and improved health.

Our Approach

At TOUCEO, we would like to establish a good learning environment that would:

Establish a supportive learning culture

A sense of belonging should be felt by all members of the learning community. They must believe that they are contributing to a strong learning culture while also becoming a larger and more significant part of it.

Address Learners’ Needs

Order, security, love, belonging, competence, personal authority, novelty, independence, and even enjoyment are among psychological demands that learners, like adults, have. It’s vital to respond to these demands at all times, as well as to help students advance and learn in a constructive way.

Keep it Positive

Praise is significantly more effective than punitive methods in motivating students. Unlike humiliation, which is immensely discouraging, appreciation is the key to inspiration. Learners value the freedom to share their thoughts, and their peers’ perspectives are equally important in determining their learning attitude.

Provide Feedback

Feedback is an excellent approach to engage with students, enhance online training, and ensure that learning efforts are directed in the proper direction. Learners need feedback because it allows them to track their progress and adjust their learning technique accordingly. It assists them in identifying their weak areas while also enhancing their existing abilities.

Celebrate Success

In addition to criticism and praise, celebrating the accomplishment of the students is another technique to create a good and successful learning environment. This might be anything from a simple thank you to a large sum of money. When teachers recognise and share their students’ accomplishments with other students, it builds a sense of accomplishment and encourages healthy learning habits.

Safety

A good learning environment provides a secure setting for students. Learners must feel comfortable both mentally and physically before they can be expected to achieve academically. While most schools take physical safety precautions, few learning platforms emphasise the emotional well-being of their students.

The Final Words

Positive learning environment that we seek to establish is the one where learners feel involved and responsible for their learning while being comfortable enough to fully participate in group and individual activities. That would require an established classroom. Would you join us to make this happen?

PROJECT 1: AKAA SECONDARY SCHOOL

Community Involvement

The local community are fully engaged in the project. They have offered church land through the diocese of Nebbi.

Because of great enthusiasm and determination to see the only local secondary school constructed in their village, they have decided to start with the project by building one classroom using poles and mad plus iron sheets as seen in the picture so that the students can continue with learning.

TOUCEO as a Trust, is determined to help fundraise for the construction of Akaa Secondary school. In order for the project to commence, through the local architect, a survey and detailed planning of the land including the school structures have been developed as seen bellow. The planning will help us build a more permanent affordable structure that would last for many years.

Cost For Building Each Block

Costs of constructing a single block would vary according to the area of operation. In this part of Uganda. Each block will cost at least £12,000. This does not include furniture.

You can be part of this project by helping us fundraise within your church, work places, school or putting your self to a challenge. click here for our fundraising ideas you can use. Get in touch if you would like to help build the only secondary school in this community. admin@touceo.org
