Empowering A Next Generation of Farmers

At TOUCEO, we believe that farming can be more than survival — it can be an opportunity to thrive. That’s why we created the TOUCEO Young Farmers Initiative, a structured program that helps underprivileged youth build skills, start their own farms, and contribute to their communities.

🌱 The Four Main Types of Farming in Uganda

Uganda’s diverse agricultural landscape supports various types of farming. TOUCEO supports and promotes these main categories, particularly among young people, to develop skills, create livelihoods, and inspire sustainable change.

This is the most common type of farming in Uganda. Families grow crops and raise livestock mainly for home consumption. It’s basic, traditional, and often lacks access to modern tools or training.
🔹 TOUCEO’s Role: We equip young farmers with basic agricultural knowledge, tools, and improved seeds to help them increase yields, improve nutrition, and earn a surplus to support education and healthcare.

Here, farming is done on a larger scale, with the goal of generating income. It often involves cash crops like coffee, cotton, sugarcane, and maize.
🔹 TOUCEO’s Role: We train youth in farming as a business — introducing value addition, market research, cooperative marketing, and access to buyers. We encourage graduates of our young farmers’ program to transition from subsistence to commercial farming.

This involves growing crops and raising animals on the same piece of land — a method that balances food production, income, and soil health.
🔹 TOUCEO’s Role: Our hub-based youth programs introduce mixed farming systems as a sustainable model. We teach young farmers how to manage integrated farms, use animal waste as fertilizer, and diversify income sources.

This includes the intensive cultivation of fruits, vegetables, and flowers, often close to urban centres for quick sale.
🔹 TOUCEO’s Role: We support youth-led gardens that supply local markets and schools with nutritious produce. Through mentorship and small grants, we empower young women especially to venture into horticulture as a reliable business.

Transforming Lives

🎯 Our Current Focus: Scaling Young Farmers in Animal Husbandry & Crop Production

Right now, TOUCEO is focused on scaling up the efforts of existing young farmers particularly in the areas of animal husbandry and crop production. These are the backbone of rural farming communities in Uganda and offer the most immediate path to income generation, improved household nutrition, and long-term self-reliance.
We work with youth who have already shown initiative and commitment those who are driven, teachable, and trusted members of their communities. With your support, we are helping them expand their existing farms, improve their methods, and build sustainable agribusinesses.
